Update on the Champion Ultra-dwarf greens re-grassing project

The greens re-grassing project is going perfectly smooth (just like a brand new green should be) and directly on time. Beginning July 17, 2017, the front nine will reopen complete with brand new Champion Ultra-dwarf greens and several other golf course improvements.  On the same day, the back nine will close and the transformation to Champion Ultra-dwarf greens will begin on holes 10 through 18, plus our “practice hole”.  Continuing through the summer, the rates will remain discounted as we will only have 9 holes available.  For anyone wanting to play 18 holes (thus playing the same nine twice) the rates are:  Annual Members-$12, Discount Card Holders-$19 & all others-$20.  All of these rates are for 18 holes with a cart and does include the tax.  The timeline for the back nine completing will be around mid-to-late September.  Once again, plenty of Facebook updates and pictures will be posted as the back nine work begins.  Other work that has been accomplished on the front nine which will also be done to the back nine include Brazilian-pepper tree removal, intensive weed control, cart path repair and planting of several trees and shrubs.

Now is the time

Now that the front nine is about to reopen, it is time to “up the ante” on golf cart rules, etiquette and golf course care.  The front nine has been closed since May 8, therefore the fairways and green slopes look absolutely perfect.  Gone is a lot of cart compaction, specifically on front and sides of greens slopes and banks.  Staff intends to do their best in enforcing common golf course rules simply entailing not operating a golf cart with 30 feet of any green, specifically in the front and sides of each green slope.  Players caught operating a golf cart inside of 30 feet of any green (with special emphasis on the front & sides of green slopes) will get one warning.  On the second warning, the player will be asked to leave the golf course without a refund.  Again, it is time to enter into a new era in regards to golf course care.  An additional reminder goes out to all players, no matter what golf course is being played, to do the right (and only) thing and repair ball marks, fill divots with sand, rake sand bunkers and as mentioned earlier, operate a golf cart accordingly.  Golf course care from our customers will help make the golf course look better and better.

In Memory, Dan “Dr. Dan” Redmond

On May 26, 2017, longtime golf shop cashier Dan "Dr. Dan" Redmond, passed away peacefully at the Palm Bay Hospice. Dr. Dan worked in the golf shop for just over 15 years. He had so much fun entertaining himself with the customers and they loved his sense of humor as well. First-timers at the golf course could walk into the golf shop and almost immediately feel welcome when Dr. Dan was commanding the counter. He will be missed more than ever by the entire staff at the golf course, yet many of his stories, his entertaining personality and his overall love of life will be remembered forever. And Doc, well, we hope you bump into Michael Nichols, if you haven't already, and get a few even-par rounds in! Fairways and Greens to Dan's wife, Shirley and all his children and grandchildren in the Boston area and beyond!  Coming later this summer will be a “nine and dine” tournament to honor Dr. Dan.  The date and additional details of this event will be posted soon.
